The use of phraseologisms in the works of Ivan Vazov (on the novella Chichovtsi and the novel Under the Yoke

Abstract: Vazov’s works “Pod igoto” and “Chichovtsi” make significant use of phraseological constructions. Detailed analysis reveals differences from their classical version, summarized in the Phraseological Dictionary, including grammatical changes, dialects, turcisms, archaisms, synonymic substitutions, inversions, etc. Phraseology in the works under review is mainly used in direct speech and enriches the expression. Vazov's language is often perceived as archaic and difficult. This is due precisely to the phraseologies used, which he altered in form but reflected their meaning, which was later reflected in phraseological dictionaries.

Keywords: phraseological constructions, Vazov, "Under the Yoke", "Uncles", “Pod igoto”, “Chichovtsi”.
