Preliminary words 02-2021

The second issue for 2021 of the journal "Modern Linguistics" continues the good tradition of publishing texts by young authors who are taking their first steps in the world of the vast science of linguistics. These steps are sometimes uncertain and their authors are afraid to boldly state their position, but at the same time they are a request for a desired realization in the vast field of observation and research of the Bulgarian language.

In the "Teacher's Word" section, two significant contributions by prominent Bulgarian linguists Prof. Dr. Gergana Dacheva from the Department of Bulgarian Language and Prof. Dr. Phil. Mariana Georgieva from the Institute of Bulgarian Language.

Eight young scholars, on the other hand, unfold their observations in the "Linguistic Forum" section, which publishes texts by Rumen Skrinski (PhD student at the Faculty of History of Sofia University), Nikolay Shindarov (PhD student at the Department of Bulgarian Language of Sofia University), Maria-Liya Borisova (PhD student at the Department of Bulgarian Language), Margarita Gerginova (PhD student in the History of the Modern Bulgarian Literary Language), Zornitsa Tancheva (PhD student in the History of the Modern Bulgarian Literary Language at Sofia University), Antoaneta Nacheva (PhD student in the History of the Modern Bulgarian Literary Language at Sofia University), Veronika Begova (Bachelor of Bulgarian Philology), Yoana Eneva, Yoan Vassilev (third-year Bulgarian Philology students - Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski") and Ruslana Margova (PhD student at the Department of General Linguistics of Sofia University) "St. Clement of Ohrid").

In the section "Bulgarian Journalists about the Bulgarian Language", we present a conversation on language issues with journalist Anna Tsolova, who graduated in Bulgarian Philology in 1998, and in the section Bulgarian Writers on the Bulgarian Language, Dr. Bilyana Borisova asks her questions to the young and talented Bulgarian writer Neda Zareva.

In the second book of the magazine, for the first time, we publish student essays dedicated to the Bulgarian speech and its uses in everyday life by young speakers against the backdrop of dynamic development processes that change both society and its speech. The magazine's editorial office received more than 200 student essays, of which a special jury approved the texts of Niya Raicheva from NGDEK, Niya Momkova from 9th grade "Alphonse de Lamartine", Eva Raykovska from Second English High School, Martin Slavov from 35th grade "Dobri Voynikov", Teodora Elenkova from "Zhelyazko Terpeshev" Secondary School; and Tsvetoslava Todorova, Kalia Kairalakh and Todor Paskalev from 21st grade "Hristo Botev" Secondary School, Lozenets district, Sofia. I express my gratitude to their teachers of Bulgarian language and literature and to them themselves for their creative efforts.

I express my special gratitude to Dr. Maya Angelova – director of the 21st Sofia University “Hristo Botev”, and to Ms. Svetla Dimitrova (deputy director at the same school) – because with their professionalism and skills, with their modern approaches to students and their love and vocation for their work, they have created a modern school in which a creative atmosphere reigns, an interest in language and literature; an aspiration to constantly link linguistic and literary competences with the requirements of life and society. And with this they have achieved the most important thing for an educational institution – to be a bridge to higher education and to life, into which literate young people will enter with dignity and self-confidence.
