This article aims to present how the Ancient Greek word λαβίς was translated in Old Church Slavonic. It seems that two words were used in Old Church Slavonic – щипьцы and клѣща. There is a difference in the meaning depending on which Old Church Slavonic word was used. Клѣща was used to translate λαβίς in the context of the events of Isaiah 6:6. The same word was used to call Mother Mary. Several examples of the usage of the word are given in order to support this claim.
